"Framing literary works, values and interpretations - some challenges for narratology"

Zeit: Mittwoch, 16.01.2019, 16:00 bis 18:00 Uhr
Ort: LMU, Hauptgebäude, Raum E 318

Narratology in its various guises holds an uneasy relation to interpretation and valuation processes, which however constitute important dimensions in many narratological analyses. In her lecture, Liesbeth Korthals Altes (Professor of Literary Theory and Modern French Literature at the University of Groningen) aims to highlight the fruitfulness of analyzing head-on the dynamics and the diversity of interpretations. On the basis of a few hypotheses regarding the impact of 'overarching' and inter-connected framing acts (e.g. an interpreter's framing of a text's genre and of its author's posture and ethos) as well as on particular versions of discourse and rhetorical analysis and art and value sociology Prof. Korthals Altes will discuss the broader culture-historical relevance and potential ethical and didactic 'uses' of the proposed analytic perspective. Michel Houellebecq’s 2015 novel Soumission will be used to illustrate these reflections and the analytic framework.

Der Vortrag findet im Rahmen des Forschungskolloquiums von Prof. Dr. Riccardo Nicolosi statt.
