ELAN Workshop as part of the course on "Field Methods for the East European Context"

You are all kindly invited to our ELAN Workshop as part of the course on "Field Methods for the East European Context". The facilitator will be Dr Tihomir Rangelov, from MPI-EVA who has lots field experience.

What is ELAN? ELAN is software that allows to systematise and explore linguistic data from multiple angles (from transcribing your own field materials, to creating a corpus with YouTube materials; measuring gestures, code-switching, discourse analysis, morphosyntax,...). This tool is becoming very popular amongst linguists, so I would recommend you have a look at it, even if you may not think of yourself as a "fieldwork linguist".

The first part of the workshop will be Friday (10.11) from 10-12, with an additional "Übung" slot (13-14) for extra exercises, to which you are kindly invited. The second session will be on Friday (17.11), within the same days, but for the second Übung, we will be trying out some experiments you can run on the field with speakers (which I promise it'll be lots of fun!).

No previous knowledge required. You will need to bring a laptop to follow this course. We will send further instructions about what you will need to install, so that we can go a bit faster on Friday.
